Opening of the museum with people in 18th century costumes

The Laboratorium museum was opened on September 25th 2015 by Bergara Town Hall, following a long-term project involving the commitment of many people.

Bergara Town Hall decided to create the museum in 1981, but the restoration of the Royal Seminary’s scientific collections has required a huge effort. The first attempts at setting up the museum were made in 1981, led by volunteer groups such as Promoción Cultural Bergaresa (Promoting the Culture of Bergara) or by open commission, but the museum only achieved professional status from 1991 onwards.

From then, a phase of urgent conservation, inventory, research and restoration work began in order to prepare the pieces which are on display in the museum. Following a period of reflection and selection of pieces, work got under way to promote the museum and to define its future.
