The Seminary’s education and research work involved distinguished citizens of Bergara as well as wise and learned people from across the Basque Country who came to work in the area. Many prestigious European scientists also lived among us.

The Royal Basque Society resorted to various methods to obtain the technical and human means needed to take forward its work. These included a military-industrial espionage programme on behalf of the monarchy which was used to fund the new science professorships.
